Jesus commends his mother and the beloved disciple into each other’s care in today’s gospel. Fr Paul points out that as Jesus’ beloved, we too are invited into his loving family. Mary becomes our mother, Jesus our brother and God our Father.

So many times, Father Paul would advise me with the exact words of this homily, and for that, I am forever grateful. My favorite Mass of the week was always Saturday morning when we prayed our devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. I miss that most of the many days I spent at the RRC and in the desert surrounding it.
